Edmodo
Edmodo is a free private social platform for education. It provides a secure and trusted environment, social learning for the classroom, a place to share ideas, files and assignments, including a schedule and calendar for assignments, a place to post docs and web links as well as ask questions of the teacher and students, a way to monitor who has done what and it includes mobile access and messenging. It is much like students will use if they take on-line university classes. It would be a great introduction to this type of learning...http://www.edmodo.com/
Helpful Teacher Websites
Think Finity: http://www.thinkfinity.org/
Lesson plans, widgets, education articles and "Today in History" Calendar. The widgets provide unique on-line activities. Try it out
ABC Tools (http://www.abcteach.com/abctools_home.php) and EdHelper (http://www.edhelper.com/ ) both provide help making handouts and some lesson plans. Many things are limited unless you sign up.
Other attendees shared their state links with us including Learn NC (http://www.learnnc.org/); Calisphere (http://www.calisphere.universityofcalifornia.edu/ ) and Sunlink (http://www.sunlink.ucf.edu/). North Carolina's appears more technical and thoughtful, California's is definitely the most creative while Florida's Sunlink seems stale.

New Technology available in the Library!
We purchased 6Kindles (electronic readers) and an IPad now available for staff to check out and use with students. We would appreciate suggestions as to which books and applications you believe would be helpful to load on to the new equipment. We would like staff and students to use new technology and become aware what is available and how to use it.
We also purchased two scanners which will be available in the library for staff and student use. October 2010 - The scanners are up and running. The IPad is not. Sorry.

Destiny Quest
We updated our library software to include Destiny Quest/Title Peak. The students may now search and see a visual of the book, see which books are around it, search books "like" a book they have read and enjoyed, keep a list of which books they may like and read reviews of books. This is a wonderful feature.

International Children's Digital Library
This group has digitized hundreds of children's books from around the world. The majority of books are available in many languages and project well on the iBoards. It may be beneficial to play around with the sizing/full screen view.

Pic-Lits
http://www.piclits.com/compose_dragdrop.aspx
Think refrigerator magnet poetry meets SlideShare. I haven't shared SlideShare yet have I? This is an easy (really, really easy) site in which the user picks a photo from a gallery and adds text - either choosing from their available drop-n-drag lists or freestyle. It would be a fun poetry project. What I have enjoyed the most are viewing the other examples submitted by people using the same photo... Two concerns, you have to pick one of their photos, of which there are many, and you can not cut and paste your work, only "share" it.
For an example, http://www.piclits.com/viewpoem.aspx?PoemId=43988

Mapenvelope.com
This is a site in which a google map will print out to be made into an envelope, and allows you to insert a personal message. It works much better on a color printer, but I am sure someone creative could find a good use for this.

NetVibes
This is similar to creating your own home page (like iGoogle) but excellent for research projects too. Make sure you look at the example, as the general page is confusing but the example clearly shows how useful this may be.

Glogster
This is a website in which you can "posterize" yourself. I changed the link to the Glogster educational site. The site says this:
"Educators from all over the world are integrating Glogster Edu integrated platform to make traditional learning more dynamic, more interactive and more in tune with learners today. Most importantly, Glogster Edu is fun for teachers and learners alike. " It is recommended by the School Librarian Journal and Sylvan Learning.
It takes some time as you have to upload the pictures, work with the gadgets and upload the music to the site, then upload it to your poster. It is fun and full of creativity but a little time-consuming. It is also blocked by our server but if a teacher is interested, we can probably figure that out.

Wordle
This is a fun, poster making application, not as advanced as glogster as it only uses text, but fun, quick and easy. http://www.wordle.net/

Mindomo
I am starting to play with this, perhaps for the curriculum presentation. Clear, easy to make and easy to understand. Great for presentations, and perhaps lessons... Shows the big picture and the details, easy links, etc.

Evernote
This is a free storage system/search your information system/memory on steroids system. I haven't started because it seems it will take time to set up, but then be well worth the effort. http://www.evernote.com/about/learn_more/
